{"id":2485,"date":"2021-12-13T13:47:36","date_gmt":"2021-12-13T12:47:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fair-alpha.org\/?p=2485"},"modified":"2022-08-11T09:33:27","modified_gmt":"2022-08-11T08:33:27","slug":"brexit-strengthens-luxembourg-as-a-securitisation-location","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fair-alpha.org\/en\/brexit-strengthens-luxembourg-as-a-securitisation-location\/","title":{"rendered":"Brexit strengthens Luxembourg as a securitisation location"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Brexit is causing increasing political and regulatory risks in the UK and the Channel Islands. \u201cIn the securitisation market, institutional investors and asset managers are also looking for alternatives to traditional locations such as London, but also in particular to the Channel Islands of Jersey or Guernsey\u201d, said Daniel Knoblach, Board Member at FAIR ALPHA. \u201cThe Luxembourg location benefits disproportionately from this.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While the Channel Islands are not officially part of the United Kingdom, they are directly assigned to the British Royal Family as a Crown Estate. \u201cMany laws are particular, some also particularly loose \u2013 and this is currently causing uncertainty among investors\u201d, said Knoblach. Whereas up to now the rights for the Channel Islands were essentially based on EU rules, their continued existence is now no longer certain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cEspecially for securitisations, the Channel Islands were an interesting address for some investors\u201d, Knoblach pointed oiut. \u201cAfter all, trading strategies or new ideas could be cast into tradable securities there quickly and quite cheaply.\u201d Unlike products created in Luxembourg, for example, there is no requirement for an annual audit by auditors in the Channel Islands. \u201cRisks in the strategies or even in the balance sheets can thus remain undetected for longer\u201d, said Knoblach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The special role of the Channel Islands could become a burden in the future. \u201cThe dispute over fishing rights has shown how hard the battle is fought\u201d, said Knoblach. \u201cFuture political risks can therefore arise for investors as well as for initiators or portfolio managers, products could no longer be purchasable, there is a threat of reputational damage\u201d, according to Knoblach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In view of this uncertainty, an increased demand for EU products is apparent. \u201cWe have observed strong increases in enquiries since the middle of the year\u201d, said Knoblach.
